TIMES JAKARTA, JAKARTA – A total of 27 State Islamic Religious Higher Education Institutions (PTKIN) in Indonesia have achieved "Excellent" accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT). Not only excelling domestically, but two PTKIN institutions have also marked remarkable achievements at the international level.
The Director of Islamic Higher Education (Diktis), Prof Ahmad Zainul Hamdi (Prof Inung), popularly known as Ahmad Inung, revealed that Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University (UIN) Jakarta and Maulana Malik Ibrahim State Islamic University (UIN) Malang have been recognized by the Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings (QS-WUR).
"UIN Syarif Hidayatullah ranks 751-800 in the Asian level, while UIN Malik Ibrahim Malang holds the 901st position in the same category," said Prof Inung in Jakarta, Friday (20/12/2024).
This achievement is even more remarkable as QS-WUR is one of the most prestigious international university ranking institutions, comparable to the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) and Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE WUR).
PTKIN Internationalization Focus
Ahmad Inung emphasized that the accomplishments of these two PTKIN institutions are tangible evidence of the ongoing internationalization efforts.
"We continue to encourage other PTKIN institutions to follow in their footsteps through various development strategies," he stated.
One of the strategic steps includes an internationalization pilot project involving eight State Islamic Universities (UIN). Additionally, Diktis prioritizes improving the accreditation of international study programs through AUN-QA, increasing indexed international scientific publications, providing scholarships for international students, and expanding the quota for lecturer certifications.
"We also focus on increasing the number of Professors in PTKIN institutions to strengthen global competitiveness," he added.
Enhancing PTKIN Reputation in Southeast Asia
Although already recognized at the Asian level, Diktis aims for even higher achievements for PTKIN institutions in the Southeast Asian region. Ahmad Inung is optimistic that with continuous improvement in education quality and services, the reputation of Indonesian PTKIN institutions will gain broader global recognition.
"With these efforts, not only will these two PTKIN institutions shine, but the entire Islamic educational institutions in Indonesia will also achieve international recognition," he concluded. (*)
